Three men have been sentenced for drugs offences after being targeted by a joint police operation in Somerset with officers from the District Targeting Team in Yeovil assisted by Zephyr.
Andrew White, a 44-year-old man from 147 Sherborne Road, Yeovil, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for supplying heroin and conspiracy to supply cannabis.
Simon Banks, a 42-year-old man from Flat B, 1 Penfield, Yeovil was sentenced to 3 years in prison for conspiracy to supplying cannabis.
A third man Kevin Meggs, a 29-year-old man from 9 Hendford Court, Yeovil, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for possession with intent to supply cocaine, crack cocaine and heroin and conspiracy to supply cannabis.
The men were arrested in July 2010 as part of an ongoing investigation into drug supply. Police stopped White driving in Charlton Adam with Simon Banks in the front seat passenger. Officers found approximately three kilos in the cannabis worth approximately £21,000 in a holdall in the boot of the vehicle and both men were arrested.
In a coordinated strike officers also executed a warrant at Kevin Meggs' address. His flat was searched and officers found large quantities of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine, and a further two kilos of skunk cannabis. The estimated street value of these drugs is £26,000. Meggs was arrested at the address.
DCI Rich Evans said:
"Somerset East have worked closely with our colleagues at Zephyr in securing a conviction against this organised crime group. Andrew White has been sentenced for serious drug related offences after a protracted enquiry into his lifestyle. He has supplied large amounts of heroin to other dealers in the chain and his planning into supplying other drugs to the Yeovil area with Simon Banks and Kevin Meggs indicated the belief, on their part, that they were operating above the law. Their prison sentences should be a reminder to them that crime such as this does not pay. The work that we undertook, with a thorough protracted operation working closely with other agencies, shows the lengths that we will go to in order to ensure that the communities of Somerset East are a safer place."
