From boob jobs to designer vaginas, it seems no body part is off-limits when it comes to cosmetic surgery.
The latest trend to emerge is changing the size or shape of your belly button, also known as Umbilicoplasty. It's especially popular with new mums or victims of the 00s belly button piercing trend.
Kim Kardashian had hers done last year (of course she did), which could have accelerated the trend.
Darren Smith, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, told Allure : "The belly button is a very important cosmetic feature of the stomach. I am seeing an increase in patient interest in belly button aesthetics."
"I think there is an increase in belly button procedures with people asking for revision of previous piercings," adds Eric Chang, a double board-certified plastic surgeon at The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction. "If I could tell people anything, I would say not to get their belly button pierced."
In more extreme cases, there's also a procedure for turning your outie into an innie called Umbilical Hernia Repair. It's usually carried out when an outie has formed following pregnancy or heavy exertion.
"This is a condition in which tissue, usually fat, protrudes through a small hole in the abdominal wall," says Darren. "It makes the belly button bulge outward for a prominent 'outie' appearance."
It's fixed with surgery to repair the hole, and isn't always purely cosmetic as in rare cases the bulge can be painful. As always, there's a risk of infection, bleeding, and scarring, so it's not a decision to take lightly.
