Kinison album, concert vid planned

More than a year after he was killed in a traffic accident near Needles, plans are under way for a new concert video, album and biography of shock comic Sam Kinison.

Las Vegas teen Troy Pierson, now 18, pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence during a hearing before a San Bernardino County judge last winter, said Frank Modokie, assistant district attorney.

Kinison, a preacher turned comedian, died on U.S. 95 near the California-Nevada border about 100 miles south of Las Vegas. He was en route to the Riverside Hotel in Laughlin, Nev., to perform.

After pleading guilty, Pierson was sentenced to a year of probation, his license was suspended two years, and he was ordered to serve 300 hours of community service.

That sentence didn’t please Kinison’s family, especially his older brother, Bill, who also was his business manager and was following Kinison’s car in a van when the April 10, 1992, accident occurred.

“At no time did I see any remorse,” Bill Kinison said of the teen’s behavior the day of the accident and in subsequent court proceedings. “But there’s nothing we can do about it now.”

The upcoming album is a recording from a 1991 concert in Houston. The videotape is from a 1992 theater show in Upland. Kinison said the book is his personal recollection of his brother’s life.
