We'll give it to them: Mango nails expensive-looking wardrobe staples like few other brands on the high street. And all manner of celebs and influencers are aware of it. Kate Middleton wore a high neck knitted Mango dress while visiting a children's centre in Middlesex earlier this season, Jessica Alba wore a pair of Mango ecru ankle boots while out in NYC in November, and Emily Ratajkowski wore a pair of Mango cowboy boots, also in New York, back in the summer.
Camille Charriere trusted and adored the brand so much that she released a sparkle-adorned Christmas party collection with them ahead of the 2022 festive season, and Naomi Watts sported a burnt orange corduroy blazer while out in NYC following the release of Netflix's The Watcher. Yep: Mango has a stellar track record of featuring in the high-low sartorial get-ups of countless celebs.
That said, it's fairly rare for more than one celebrity to be spotted in the same Mango staple within the same year – so when Gigi Hadid, Sienna Miller, Katie Holmes and Alexa Chung were all papped wearing matching, expensive-looking Mango coats, we were halted in our tracks.
This happened earlier in 2022, and said coat – unsurprisingly – sold out with speed. We tried to get our hands on it; we failed. We went back to normal life, tails between our legs, swearing never to deliberate on such a sensible purchase for so long again. But, good news: as the perfect antidote to this week's cold weather-induced low mood, Mango has restocked the exact, A-lister-adored double-breasted wool coat for this winter. In every. Single. Size.
Double-breasted wool coatThis begs the question: why on earth has it been so popular? For one, it has a perfectly exaggerated silhouette – one that's reminiscent of the maxi styles presented on the AW22 catwalks at The Row, Saint Laurent and Altuzarra – plus, it's made of wool. And of course, a wool coat is nothing short of a capsule wardrobe necessity. If Max Mara's signature 101801 Icon coat – worn by the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Angelina Jolie since its creation in 1981 – is a little out of your price bracket, this £180 style is a no-brainer.
If that wasn't enough, this coat – complete with draped collar and contrasting buttons – is versatile AF; the fact that every celebrity styled it differently to one another acts as all the proof you need.
Gigi Hadid paired hers with split-hem leggings, lace-up winter boots and atop an oversized checked blazer, while Holmes showcased the head-to-toe neutrals trend with a pair of ecru jeans and box-fresh white trainers. Elsewhere, Sienna Miller went for a similarly casual vibe: straight leg jeans and a pair of mini UGG boots – while Alexa Chung demonstrated the coat's ability as a Christmas party companion, over a ruffle-hem cream dress and black patent Mary Janes.
Double-breasted wool coatThis isn't the only Mango coat that has secured the GLAMOUR editor stamp of approval this season. In fact, the Mango coats and jackets section as a collective has been impressively strong. Katie Holmes donned a second Mango coat back in January – a chic, emerald green pea coat which is still in stock in most sizes – while that shearling jacket sold out countless times over. They've released quilted puffer coats with sheepskin collars, cropped faux fur jackets and more teddy coats than we dare to count.
Whichever style you choose, we predict a sell-out on all of the above. So don't spend too much time deliberating.
