Two men have died after traffic collisions in Suffolk at Assington and Haverhill on Sunday.

26 year-old Peter James, from Haverhill, died in the morning following a car accident on Homefield Road in Haverhill.

Police were contacted by the ambulance service around 11.45am to report a car had collided with a tree near the Moon Hall Lane junction.

Efforts were made to resuscitate the young driver involved but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:20pm.

At around 6:20pm that evening, another car accident happened on the A134 at Assington involving a man in his mid 20s.

Police were contacted by two drivers who alerted them to the collision, one of which had been driving a Ford Transit van and was involved in the crash.

A search began in the area after the other driver had said she saw a man walking along the A134 at Newton.

His body was found at 7:30pm and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have any information about either collision to come forward.
